Steven Leahy is a hyperrealist acrylic painter, airbrush artist, author, and educator whose meticulously rendered work explores light, place, and American visual culture. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1991, and his work has appeared in exhibitions at the Butler Institute of American Art, Manifest Gallery, the Cambridge Art Association, the Society of Illustrators, and other venues, earning honors including the Florence & Ernest Thorne Thompson Memorial Award, a National Midyear Show Honorable Mention, and the Northern National Patron’s Award.
Leahy is the author of How Airbrushes Work and a contributing author to How to Airbrush Pinups and Airbrushing 101; his art and interviews have also been featured in publications including Airbrush Action, Flying Magazine, and Naval Aviation News. An instructor since 1991, he developed and led airbrush programs and continues to teach through his weekly “Monday Night Live” online demonstrations on YouTube. He is a Signature Artist of the National Association of Acrylic Painters and has held memberships and leadership roles in several regional and national arts organizations.
